West Clovis is home to some of the city's most established residential neighborhoods — mature trees, irrigated lawns, and homes that have stood for decades.
That maturity is beautiful. It also creates ideal conditions for certain pests that newer neighborhoods rarely see at the same intensity.

There's a reason West Clovis homeowners call us about carpenter ants more often than people on the east side of town. Carpenter ants are drawn to moist, softening wood — and in a neighborhood with 30, 40, or 50-year-old trees and the irrigation to keep them healthy, that wood is often nearby.
Unlike termites, carpenter ants don't eat wood — they excavate it to build galleries for their colonies. You'll often find them in dead branches, fence posts, old landscape ties, or in areas of your home where wood has been exposed to moisture over the years. Framing around windows, near exterior plumbing, and in rarely-visited crawl spaces are common nesting sites.
Termites also benefit from the irrigation-heavy landscaping common in West Clovis. Subterranean termites need soil moisture to survive and thrive in the moist soil conditions that tree roots and regular watering create. Homes that have been there for decades with established landscaping often sit above well-developed termite territory.
Scorpions are active throughout West Clovis during summer. They follow their prey — primarily crickets and other insects — and the lush, irrigated yards of established neighborhoods support higher insect populations than drier, newer areas of town.
